Separate no heat from a drying-performance problem
Record the cycle name and temperature option. Consult the model manual for a permitted heat check, with the cabinet fully assembled. Whirlpool’s electric-dryer no-heat guidance explains that Air Only adds no heat and distinguishes a cold dryer from one that heats but dries poorly.
Stop using the dryer if there is scorching, smoke, a burning smell, repeated breaker trips or unusual overheating. Do not bypass a fuse, door switch or thermal protection device.
Electric Cabrio: a turning drum does not prove full power
Whirlpool notes that an electric dryer may turn while a supply problem prevents heating. Check only the normal, safely accessible breaker controls as your manual directs. Leave outlet measurements, terminal connections and supply repairs to an electrician. If a protective device trips again, do not keep resetting it.
Gas Cabrio: use the gas-model instructions
Do not apply electric heating-element advice to a gas dryer. Identify the model from its label or paperwork without moving the appliance or disturbing the gas connection. Internal ignition tests, gas-valve work and fuel conversion belong to qualified service personnel. If you smell gas, leave the area and contact your gas emergency service from a safe location; do not operate switches or attempt another cycle.
If it gets warm but clothes remain wet
Follow the manual’s routine lint-screen care and loading instructions. Note whether the problem affects every load, whether the cycle finishes unusually early, and whether drying time recently increased. Arrange inspection of an inaccessible, crushed or obstructed exhaust route. Do not treat persistent poor drying as a reason to fit a larger heater or defeat a sensor.
What to record before arranging service
- Full model and fuel type, if known.
- Selected cycle and temperature.
- Completely cold, warms briefly, or warm but slow to dry.
- Displayed code and any breaker trip.
- Recent installation, vent work or power outage.
Print the checklist and use Whirlpool’s US service route or your regional manufacturer support. Ask whether the diagnosis includes the supply and exhaust system before approving replacement parts.
Does no heat prove the thermal fuse has failed?
No. Fuse behavior and heating circuits vary by model. A symptom is not a substitute for the applicable service procedure, and replacing protection without finding its cause can leave the underlying problem.
Where is the heater on a Cabrio?
Use the exact model documentation. One universal back-panel diagram or resistance figure would be misleading across the range.
