F8 E4: do not apply a generic power-reset routine
In Whirlpool’s F8 E4 guidance for professionally installed dishwashers, the drain sequence begins and normal operation is prevented. Whirlpool directs users to turn off the water supply, press Cancel once to silence the alarm, keep the door closed and leave power on. Follow the applicable manufacturer instructions and arrange assistance; do not bypass the float system.
If there is smoke, an electrical hazard or water near an exposed electrical connection, keep away and get urgent qualified help. Do not reach through water to access controls.
Should I reset it or enter diagnostics?
Record the code before clearing anything. A reset can remove information useful to a technician and does not repair an underlying fault. Use a reset only when the exact code guidance permits it. This is particularly important when a protective drain sequence is active.
There is no universal three-button service sequence for every Whirlpool dishwasher.
